Sialens Y Barcud Coch

Sialens Y Barcud Coch is a Multi-terrain challenge over 11 miles (walk 8 miles) through the beautiful setting of Nant y Arian. The course is challenging with steep climbs through forestry and over rough tracks on the moors. The race takes in beautiful views of Blaenmelindwr lake, Pumlumon and a vast expanse of forestry using the forest trails, tracks and paths. This year (2006) the event incorporates the UK, Welsh Senior and Masters Trail Running Championships. The race starts and finishes by the new Nant-yr-Arian Visitor Centre just off the A44, 2 miles away from Ponterwyd on the way to Aberystwyth.

Ras Y Diafol

This is the second part of the weekends racing and is altogether more demanding than Sialens Y Barcud Coch. This race is run over 18 miles (walk 12 miles) and can either be run as a one off challenge (combine awards are based on the cumulative times for both races), or as a relay in teams of three. There is also a special class for non-athletic relay teams e.g. football, rugby or hockey teams. The race starts and finishes at Woodlands Caravan Park, Devil’s Bridge near Aberystwyth and covers substantial tracts of moor and forestry utilising farmland and forest tracks through the Hafod Estate. Woodlands Caravan Park can be found on the A4120, 2 miles south of the A44 at Ponterwyd.
